That is why they have confirmed the renewal of Ian Frey, one of the team’s best players and a player who balances young talent with a long-term commitment to a project led by World Cup winner Lionel Messi. With this extension, the Herons have secured one of the pillars and foundational pieces for championship success.

His contract with the club runs through the 2028-29 Major League Soccer season. His renewal comes at a critical time as they fight for the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Ian Frey’s path to the starting lineup hasn’t been easy, but since joining in 2021, the defender has faced multiple knee injuries that have stalled his rise.
However, the club supported him during his recovery process, allowing him to return and compete at the highest level. The League Cup, the Supporters’ Shield with a record number of points, and the final icing on the cake were the Eastern Conference Championship and the 2025 MLS Cup.
Among them, he has already appeared in 60 official games and has shown outstanding performances and contributions in the offensive field.
