Cristiano Ronaldo’s name is once again dominating social media, but this time it has nothing to do with goals, trophies or records.
Cristiano Ronaldo sparks Fast & Furious buzz by posting photo of Vin Diesel
Instead, the Portuguese superstar has been linked to Hollywood after Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel reignited speculation that Ronaldo could star in the long-running action series.
Diesel thrilled fans by posting a photo of himself alongside Ronaldo on Instagram and revealing that a role had previously been written specifically for the football icon in the Fast and Furious universe. Subsequent posts got even more interesting. Immediately after its release, Diesel quietly edited the caption, removing key details explaining where the role would appear, instantly fueling theories that the idea was no longer a thing of the past.
The eternal question for fans
In the original caption, Diesel addressed a long-standing question among fans and acknowledged that the role was indeed created for Ronaldo. He specifically mentioned the 2009 short film Los Bandoleros, which Diesel wrote and directed as a prequel to the Fast and Furious storyline. The project follows Dominic Toretto as he assembles his crew in the Dominican Republic, and features familiar faces like Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Tego Calderon, and Don Omar.
The timing would have made sense back then. When Los Bandoleros were released in July 2009, Ronaldo had just completed a record-breaking move from Manchester United to Real Madrid, arriving as the sport’s newest Galatico. A cameo during this period would have combined football stardom and blockbuster movies in a way that few can match.
But what really caught the attention of fans was Diesel’s decision to later edit the caption to remove the reference to Los Bandoleros, leaving the rest of the message intact. This single change sparked speculation that the concept had evolved into something new.
The final ‘Fast and Furious’ movie is in active development
This speculation feels timely. The 11th and reportedly final Fast & Furious movie is said to be in advanced development with production set to begin in early 2026. At the same time, rumors of spin-offs and short films continue to circulate as Universal looks for ways to expand the series. Ronaldo’s global profile would make him a natural fit for cameos and supporting roles that immediately garner worldwide attention.
Football and Hollywood crossovers are nothing new. Neymar previously co-starred with Diesel in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, showing that elite soccer players can translate star power to the big screen. But Ronaldo’s reach is on another level. As the most followed person on Instagram, his presence in the Fast and Furious movie will almost certainly garner a lot of attention and break engagement records, just as he has throughout his football career.
The photo at the center of the new buzz was not taken for the announcement itself. It dates back to December 6, 2024, just after Al Nasr lost 2-1 to Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League. Diesel was in Saudi Arabia at the time to attend the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, where he won the Iconic Characters Award. He then played in a match for Al Nasr and later met Ronaldo.
