“This may be the last time we see Messi play in Ecuador as world champion,” Daniel Molina, principal manager of contracts between the American club and Barcelona, told reporters.
Molina added that he wanted a stadium of a size that would “capable of accommodating as many people as possible from all over the country”, such as Barcelona’s stadium, which has a capacity of 60,000 people.
The promoter said Argentina coach Javier Mascherano’s decision “played an important role” in Inter Miami’s decision to play in Guayaquil.
Molina recalled that Mascherano “experienced a special atmosphere in that stadium” when he attended Barcelona’s 2021 team presentation “Noche Amarilla” as a guest.
