Lionel Messi led Inter Miami to glory last weekend, defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 to give the Florida club their first MLS Cup.
Messi helped Inter Miami win the MLS Cup. The Argentine star won the MLS Golden Boot after leading the North American League with 29 goals and 19 assists in 28 games. Messi’s 48 goal contributions are the second-highest in MLS history, just one goal behind Carlos Vela’s 2019 goal for LAFC.
Additionally, Messi was named MLS MVP for the second consecutive season, a milestone never achieved before in the history of the North American league.
Son will do everything in his power to dethrone Messi and win the MLS Cup
South Korean Son Heung-min is LAFC’s latest star signing. The striker played in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen and in the Premier League with Tottenham. Now he wants to conquer MLS.
After LAFC were eliminated from the MLS play-offs by Thomas Muller’s Whitecaps, Son traveled to London to visit his former Tottenham team-mates.
During his visit, he met with ‘Cuti’ Romero, who won the Qatar 2022 World Cup with Argentina alongside Messi, and both had the opportunity to talk about MLS.
Son took the time to joke about Messi’s MLS Cup win as “cuti” and commented in a video released by the London club: “I let Leo Messi win the MLS title, but in 2026 LAFC will be on top.”
It won’t be easy for them to win MLS next season
Messi’s thoughts after winning MLS
In the hot Florida city, there’s no bigger sports star than Leo. Messi reflected emotionally on his time in Concaf football. “Three years ago I decided to come to MLS and today we are MLS champions. We reached the semi-finals of the (Concaf) Champions Cup.”
Last year, we were eliminated early in the league and were eliminated in the first round. “Winning MLS this year was one of our main goals,” Messi explained.
