IIn the midst of the storm rocking Real Madrid, with the team seemingly looking for air amid doubts, criticism and lack of confidence, Aurélien Choameny has decided to step up. At the most delicate moment since Xabi Alonso took over as manager, the French midfielder spoke up to defend his coach and, incidentally, to point out the path that, in his opinion, the dressing room should follow.
“It’s not the coach’s fault. We have to improve,” he said flatly. A clear, direct message aimed at the obvious recipient: the players themselves. Choameni will therefore hand over responsibility to the group just before Josep Guardiola’s Manchester City arrive at the Bernabéu, but the test will not allow any distractions. His words are no coincidence. The Frenchman, who has shined again since the Spanish coach’s arrival, feels part of the project and knows it’s time to move down the pecking order. While those around him were reeling and some in the dressing room still had doubts, he chose absolute dedication and public defense that held the team together during the toughest period of the season.
Vincius Junior can’t believe he scored a magical goal against Real Madrid’s goalkeeper
manchester city
“It’s always fun to play in the Champions League, especially at home against City. It’s a great opponent and it’s an important game for us so we want to win. We’re looking forward to playing this game at home.”
strength
“I don’t know about attitude, but we don’t win games because we have to do things better. We have to play better on defense and attack and do things better. We hope to improve because what is happening now is impossible.”
Relationship between team and coach
“We are all united. If we want to win games, we have to fight in the same direction. We are on the pitch and we have to do things better. Tomorrow is a good opportunity to change the tide and get more points in the Champions League.”
Post-Loss Pressure and High Line
“The problem is that we have to improve this aspect of our game. We want to press at the start, but the problem is that sometimes it’s good and other times it’s very bad. We have to improve to be able to recover more balls.”
coach’s plan
“In fact, for example in the game in Vigo… the manager has a good game plan, but in the end it’s us players who play on the pitch. If we lose 2-0, that’s our problem. The intensity, the fouls… it’s not the manager’s fault. We have to improve and we will do that.”
Not strong enough?
“Of course the game in Vigo…and the other games as well. If we don’t play with maximum intensity it will be very difficult to win the game. We have to give our best and we have to do the same against City.”
haaland
“Today we’re going to discuss the game plan with the coach. We’ve had a lot of injuries on defense, but we have a lot of players who can play at a high level in that position. We’ve got to play our defense together and be committed. If we play at our level, we’ll win this game.”
More about City
“It’s a great team and they’re very good on the ball. We have to stay very compact and create chances quickly. It’s going to be a good game to watch and I’m sure we’ll enjoy it.”
