a A lot of things went right for Liverpool last season. They won the Premier League by a whopping 10 points over Arsenal, reached the EFL Cup final and finished with the most points in the league phase of the Champions League. Arne Slott pressed all the right buttons in his first season at the club and the players responded.
Given Slott’s incredible success in his debut season, expectations were sky high for Liverpool heading into the 2025-26 season. However, Slott and his team were unable to recreate the same magic. Liverpool have already lost two more games (six) in the Premier League than they did in all of last season. They have already been bounced out of the EFL Cup and have suffered two defeats in five games in the Champions League. In the process, they may also be in danger of losing club legend Mo Salah.

Liverpool drew with Leeds United on Saturday, just days after drawing 1-1 at home to Sunderland. Salah was again on the bench for this weekend’s match. However, he was not featured at all this time, and was the same again last week against West Ham United.

Salah, who is usually reserved and doesn’t make explosive statements about his club, broke his silence after the Leeds game. The player does not understand what is going on but believes the club “threw Mo under the bus because he is a problem within the team”.

Everything points to a January exit for Salah. Perhaps there was something going on between Slott and Salah behind the scenes, but the relationship seems irreparable.
