TThe crucial MLS Cup final is fast approaching, and the atmosphere is already heating up with tension-building statements. Thomas Muller, one of the most impressive signings in North American soccer in recent months, has made it clear that he does not want the Whitecaps to be treated as a fill-in team against Inter Miami. The match will be played on Saturday, December 6th at Chase Stadium, home of Lionel Messi’s team, and will be the first MLS final for both teams.

The showdown also represents a new chapter in the elite rivalry, this time moving outside Europe, with Messi and Muller meeting for the first time at club level on American soil.

Muller disputes Inter Miami’s favoritism

Far from adopting conservative rhetoric, Mueller hinted that the Whitecaps were not mentally defeated even though the odds were against them. He spoke sarcastically about the declining odds, but insisted there was a “chance” to win. That mentality reflects the mentality Vancouver has heading into the finals, especially after eliminating Inter Miami in the Concaf Champions Cup in the spring.

Messi described this match as a high-level one and said he expected it to be a very tough match. The forward also stressed that this type of duel will help raise the profile of MLS by bringing together historical figures from world football in a final that promises to be something special.

Both players have faced each other in European competitions in the past, and Muller has historically had the advantage, but now they will meet again on American soccer’s biggest stage, where only one player can maintain their glory.
