U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino used the spotlight of the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw to thank President Donald Trump for supporting the growth of soccer in the federation and across the United States.
Pochettino, who walked the red carpet at the glitzy event, insisted on embracing the moment and said the upcoming tournament was a “time to enjoy” for everyone involved.
“I would also like to thank Andrew and President Trump for all the support they have given the federation and for promoting the value of football here in the Americas.”
“We do a very good job and together we can be very competitive and deliver what this society really needs.”
US may have a clear path to Group D
The United States will lead Group D as the top seed, guaranteed to avoid co-hosts Mexico and Canada, as well as the nine strongest qualifying teams in the FIFA rankings.
With home-field advantage and growing confidence, the U.S. hopes the first three games are just the beginning.
Pochettino’s tenure hasn’t always looked so promising. Early conflicts with key players, disappointing performances and a slow learning system fueled skepticism about his leadership.
