WWith three goals from Tadeo Allende, one goal from Matteo Silvetti, and one goal from Telasco Segovia, Inter Miami defeated New York City FC 5-1 to become the Eastern Conference champions of the 2025 MLS Cup.
This was not just a game for football fans or for Lionel Messi, who set a new record and widened his lead over rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Leo surpasses CR7 in titles and assists
The 38-year-old captain joined the Florida team in July 2023 and has since won three titles in three years: the 2023 League Cup, the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, and most recently the MLS Cup Eastern Conference title on Saturday, November 29th.
This new trophy is Lionel’s 47th in his career, establishing him as the player with the most titles, having won it during his professional career with Barcelona (35), PSG (3), Inter Miami (3) and the Argentina national team (6).
This gave Leo a 12-point lead over his sporting rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won 35 trophies – one with Sporting CP, 16 with Real Madrid, 10 with Manchester United, five with Juventus and three with Portugal.
As if that wasn’t enough, Silvetti’s third of Inter’s five goals against New York FC came after an assist from Lionel, making it the Argentine star’s 405th goal of his professional career. With this, Messi has surpassed Ferenc Puskas’ 404 assists, making him the leader in assists in soccer history.
Cristiano, on the other hand, leads the league with 954 individual goals and is 46 goals away from reaching 1,000, while “10” players have scored 896 goals.
Now, Leo and Inter Miami will host the Vancouver Whitecaps at Chase Stadium on December 6th, and the MLS Cup final will be decided.
CR7 and Al Nasr will play against Al Najma SC on December 21st.
