Messi makes history and heads to the final again
Three goals from Tadeo Allende, one from Matteo Silvetti and one from Telasco Segovia ensured Inter Miami will reach the MLS Cup final and could add another title to their tally if they defeat the Vancouver Whitecaps next Saturday.
However, Silvetti’s goal in the 67th minute was assisted by Leo, giving him his 405th assist in all competitions, surpassing Ferenc Puskas’ 404 assists. With this, the team captain set a new record and became the top assist provider in soccer history.
As if this new milestone in his career wasn’t enough, on Saturday night Messi added another title: his 47th.
This conference title cemented his place as the most decorated footballer of all time, ahead of Dani Alves with 43 titles and Andres Iniesta and Marquinhos with 40 titles.
Leo has won 35 titles with Barcelona, 3 with Paris Saint-Germain, 3 with Inter Miami and 6 with Argentina.
This new title was also a source of joy for teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who announced their retirement at the end of the season. This meant that not only did they win another title, but they also extended their careers by one more match and were able to bid a grand farewell.
Inter Miami hosts Thomas Muller and the Vancouver Whitecaps with a 3-1 win over San Diego FC on Saturday. The two teams will face off at Chase Stadium on December 6th, with both teams looking to win the MLS Cup Final.
