Rafa Marquez arrives to assist Javier Aguirre
Rafa Marquez, who was with Barcelona B, has been invited by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) to be Javier Aguirre’s assistant for the 2026 World Cup.
However, the FMF plans to keep the man known as Kaiser as the host after the next World Cup, and therefore the coach of the 2030 World Cup process.
With that in mind, the new coaching staff that will lead El Tri towards the 100th anniversary of the World Cup is also beginning to take shape.
Andres Guardado will join the Mexican national team
Joining Marquez on his coaching staff is Andres Guardado, with whom he played four World Cup cycles with the Mexican national team.
Guardado has reportedly been invited to join coach Vasco Aguirre’s staff, but the Atlas youth player is said to have turned down the invitation in order to prepare as a coach at Real Betis in Spain for the 2026-2030 project, reports Est.
