Lamine Yamal’s phenomenon in the world of football has led to this promising young player being compared to the greats and legends of the sport, including Lionel Messi.
Their sports career began in the same Barcelona, where they showed great talent from an early age. The 18-year-old has often said that his dream is to be the captain of the Argentina national team. But one former player doesn’t believe he can achieve a career like Leo’s.
Ramin gives new message on social media, sparking reinforcements for Chelsea
Yamal lacks what CR7 and Messi have
Lamine joined Bara at the age of seven while training at La Masia, and made his team debut at the age of 15 years, nine months and 16 days, on April 29, 2023, in a match against Real Betis, which Barcelona won 4-0.
He became the youngest player to make his La Liga debut for the club and won numerous awards, including two La Liga titles, one Spanish Super Cup and one Copa del Rey. He was also named the best young player at Euro 2024.
He currently has a total of 37 goals and 48 assists between his performances for Barcelona and the Spanish national team.
Nevertheless, former French footballer Louis Saha does not believe that Yamal is on par with former Bara captain Lionel Messi.
“Will Lamine Yamal ever be able to overtake Messi? That would be good for him, but I don’t think so. I don’t think he will be able to achieve that, because I look at Lamine Yamal’s qualities as a player, but I don’t see the tenacity to seriously focus on his football that I see in Cristiano Ronaldo,” the former Premier League striker said in an interview with OLBG.
During the chat, Louis Saha compared Yamal to Brazilian star Neymar Junior. “They are completely insane. There are already some distractions around Yamal, which is not good. He will be dragged out of the game, just like Neymar, who for me probably has better qualities than him.”
Meanwhile, Cristiano and Lionel praised Barcelona’s young star’s talent at an Adidas event in Germany last year. Leo said of Yamal: “He’s a player of the moment and he definitely has a big future,” and the Portuguese captain saw great talent in him, commenting: “He’s definitely going to be one of the best players of this generation.”
Meanwhile, Yamal and Barcelona, who lost 3-0 to Chelsea, will face Alavs on Saturday, November 29th at the Spotify Camp Nou.
