TThe rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has reignited an old debate over which of the two legends is better.
And while many fans are swayed by their personalities, training methods, and number of titles, others try to compare them statistically. As he enters the final stages of his career, Leo just set a record that CR7 will find difficult to break, but the Portuguese star is not far behind.
Inter Miami shines and gears up hard for match against Cincinnati
Messi shines in MLS, but CR7 does the same in Saudi Arabia
November 23rd will be remembered by football fans as a great day in sports.
On the ninth day of the Saudi League match against Al Khaleej, Cristiano Ronaldo put in a real performance, proving that he is still going strong even at the age of 40. He sealed the deal with his rivals with a bicycle kick goal and added the winning goal to his team’s 4-1 victory.
A few hours later, Lionel’s turn came. In the 2025 MLS Playoffs semi-finals, Inter Miami defeated FC Cincinnati 4-0 with the Argentine captain contributing one goal and three assists. In doing so, he led his team to the Eastern Conference Finals and added another record to his career.
With six goals and six assists, Messi became the player with the most goals in a single MLS Playoffs competition (12 goals), a feat CR7 is unlikely to achieve. It’s not because I don’t have talent.
The real reason is that the 42-year-old Al Nasr is under contract for two more years until June 2027, so it is unlikely that he will decide to play in the American league and deprive Leo of this achievement. Even with him, you’ll never know.
Meanwhile, Cristiano and Al Nasr are preparing to face FC Istiklol Dushanbe in Round 5 of the AFC Cup group stage.
Meanwhile, Leo and Inter Miami will take on New York City FC in the final on Saturday, November 29th at 6pm ET.
