Several members of the Colombian national team experienced a tense moment while enjoying their day off in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The players went shopping at a mall and noticed a suspicious car following them along the way, but one of the players quickly took action and activated security protocols to call the local police.
A spokesperson close to the Colombian national team said: “The players’ quick reactions and cooperation with the security team were key to preventing the incident,” adding that they also spoke of the importance of the strict protective measures adopted by the team, especially during activities outside of training camp.

Fort Lauderdale police intercepted the vehicle shortly after the players raised the alarm and searched it, finding latex gloves, weapons and tools commonly used in burglaries. Additionally, two people in the car, both Colombian nationals with fraudulent immigration status, were arrested.
As Ricardo Orrego told Blue Radio, authorities have confirmed that the suspects have a criminal history in the United States and may have ties to a gang that specializes in stalking powerful people and robbing shopping malls in the area.
The detainees are part of a group that carefully selects victims at tourist sites, confirming that this is not an isolated incident.
