Messi was on the verge of tears
According to newspaper Sport, the world champion received an award presented by the city of Barcelona. This is a recognition of everything he has done on and off the pitch after winning the hearts of a fan base that continues to love him to this day.
In a video circulating online, Messi can be seen looking glassy-eyed and speaking in a broken voice filled with emotion. He was unable to attend the gala in Madrid due to scheduling conflicts, so he accepted the award in Miami.
“The truth is, we’ve been through so much together. We’ve had great moments, we’ve had some not-so-great moments, and that’s normal in a long career. Not everything is perfect and you go through difficult times. But anyway… this is my home, my place, my people. I wanted to spend my entire career there without leaving for another club. And… well, the only time I played there was in Europe.”
And the biggest confession was when he said he was returning to Barcelona.
“Of course I’m going to come back. I’m just going to come to the stadium like a fan and follow the team and the club and be another supporter. For now, I’ll probably be here (Miami) for a few more years, but we’re going back to Barcelona because, as I always say, this is my place, it’s my home. I miss it so much that I’ll come back again.”
