After 894 long days, FC Barcelona has finally returned home. More than 22,000 fans filled the newly renovated Spotify Camp Nou on Friday afternoon to witness a public training session that felt more like a celebration than a training session.
Tickets sold out two days in advance and thousands more watched on the club’s official YouTube channel. For the first time since 2023, chants, flags and the electric hum of anticipation returned to Les Colts.

Under the guidance of coach Hansi Flick, the players took to the pristine new turf as the Barcelona national anthem echoed through the stadium. The crowd erupted in applause, and for many of the players it was their first time inside the modernized arena. Young talents such as Marc Casado, Fermun Lupez, Pau Cubers and Dani Olmo got their first taste of the new Camp Nou, along with new signings Ronny Bulge and Juan Garza.
FC Barcelona: Homecoming after two years
Barcelona have not played a competitive match at the Camp Nou since mid-2023, when it temporarily relocated to the Estadi Olmpic Russ Companies during a 1.5 billion renovation. While the public training was a test event, it also expressed gratitude to the fans who waited patiently during construction and delays.
President Joan Laporta confirmed that the goal is to hold the Athletic Club on November 22, pending final approval from the City Council. At present, the stadium is permitted to host 25,991 spectators, with capacity expected to increase to approximately 45,000 once safety clearances are completed.
The renovation is part of the Espai Barra project, a multi-year plan to transform the club’s facilities. According to FCBarcelona.com, construction will continue until 2027, and when completed Camp Nou will be Europe’s largest stadium, with a capacity of 105,000 fans.
A symbolic revival of the city and the club
Friday’s event didn’t just mean the team was back home. It was a statement of identity. Although the Olympics provided a temporary home, Camp Nou remains the heart of Barcelona’s footballing soul. The reopening is seen across Europe as a milestone in the redevelopment of the stadium and the modernization of the club.
The afternoon ended with Flick and the players applauding the fans, who responded with the kind of thunderous applause that only the Camp Nou can generate. It wasn’t about tactics or training. It was about belonging again. After two long years on the road, Barcelona has finally returned home.
