WThe 2026 World Cup is just around the corner, and one of the big expectations of soccer fans is that Lionel Messi will be participating in the World Cup again with the Argentina national team. This is especially true considering that Argentina won the title in 2022 and is currently the champion of this competition. However, the Argentine star made some comments that may worry Albiceleste fans.

Messi’s appearance at the next World Cup was considered a certainty, but everything could be in doubt given Messi’s physical and mental state, as he himself told NBC in an interview where he explained the reasons behind whether or not he would be able to play in the World Cup.

Messi doubts whether he will participate in the 2026 World Cup

In an interview with NBC, Lionel Messi answered very frankly, explaining that nothing is certain about his future. The player wants to play in the next World Cup, but there are important factors that will determine that, and he is very calm about it.

Regarding his options to participate in the next World Cup, Messi explained: “I will make a decision after seeing whether I can give 100 percent and contribute to the group.” The Argentine added: “We won the last World Cup, so it would be great if we could defend it. If I’m fit, I want to feel good and continue to be part of the national team.”

Messi explained that it was important to analyze each day to find out how he felt about playing in the World Cup again, and that he also took the opportunity to remember the 2022 World Cup. “It was a dream of my life. It all came true and the experience I had with my family, my people and Argentina was unforgettable.”

Reasons why Messi renewed his contract with Inter Miami

In addition to continuing with the Argentina national team, MLS fans will continue to enjoy the best player in the world, as Messi has also defined his future at club level, having announced that he has renewed his contract with Inter Miami until 2028.

Messi and his wife are very happy in Miami and have made it clear that they made this decision to prioritize their and their children’s happiness as a couple and as a family.

With the World Cup just around the corner, Messi will keep his options open and analyze every day whether football fans will enjoy the number 10 in the new World Cup.
