TDue to the simple fact that both players are only 18 years old and both sport the colors of Spain’s two biggest clubs, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, first the Spanish press and then the world press began to draw the inevitable comparisons of Franco Mastantuono versus Lamine Yamal.
Although the two sides took different paths, the debate expanded rapidly. Mastantuono is still just taking his first steps in European football, but he has impressed since joining Real Madrid, earning a place in his starting eleven. Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal is already a solid reality. He was a central player for Barcelona, the undisputed starter for the Spanish national team, champions of Euro 2024 and one of the stars of the tournament.

Mastatuono: “I don’t compare myself to anyone”
Faced with repeated comparisons, the young Argentine decided to respond in a mature manner in an interview with DSports.
“Comparisons exist in football. Unfortunately, it’s a matter of visibility, the notes make sense, the newspapers pick up the title. It doesn’t bother me, but I don’t compare myself to anyone,” Mastantuono said.
The Real Madrid right-winger also highlighted Yamal’s talent, but made it clear that he is focused on continuing to develop as an individual.
“I do my job and try to do well for myself and the team. Lamine is a great player and is having an incredible time and that deserves praise, but I don’t compare myself to him or anyone else. I prefer to look at myself. That’s more important than looking at what others do,” he concluded.
First meeting: Clasico on October 26th
The expectations for the match are already set: on October 26, 2025, Real Madrid and Barcelona will meet at the Santiago Bernabéu in matchday 10 of La Liga 2025/2026.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, it will be the first Clasico between Mastatuono and Yamal, a match that will attract worldwide attention.
But that may not be all. If Madrid eliminate Atlético and Barça do the same as Athletic Club, they could face each other again in the Spanish Super Cup final in January. Furthermore, another fixture at the Camp Nou is expected during the second round of La Liga, not to mention a possible encounter in the Copa del Rey or Champions League.
Finalissima, another possible scenario
Outside of club football, the two may cross paths again. Argentina and Spain are scheduled to take part in the final tournament, which will pit the Copa America winner against the European champion.
The duel is scheduled for March 23-31, 2026, but that depends on the Spanish team’s schedule. If this happens, it would be the perfect stage for Mastantuono and Yamal to reaffirm why they are the most promising gems in world football.
