FFormer soccer player Omar Bravo Tordesillas, Club Deportivo Guadalajara’s all-time top scorer, is accused of aggravated child sexual abuse and is facing a criminal trial in Jalisco after his arrest in Zapopan on October 4.

The former player is being held in preventive detention at Puente Grande Prison, where authorities are deciding whether to press charges.

A goal is scored in the air, giving fans a once-in-a-lifetime view.

Complaints and lawsuits begin

The case became public after journalist Ahatsiri Cárdenas published an interview with the victim’s legal representative, lawyer Juan Soltero, revealing new details about the process.

Soltero said that on September 30, the victim’s mother and the boy visited his office seeking legal advice. The woman, who is Mr Bravo’s partner, said she did not know what had happened until that day when her daughter, the eldest of her three sisters, told her what had happened.

Lawyers said the family had lived in the same house as the former soccer player for at least seven years, and that the acts were believed to have taken place when the girl was around 10 years old.

Research and presentation of evidence

Following the testimony, the office recommended filing a complaint with the prosecutor’s office, which led to the opening of an investigation by the Jalisco Attorney General’s Office.

Based on the evidence collected, judicial authorities issued an arrest warrant, which was served on October 4th.

The lawyer explained that the investigation included statements from the victim and her mother, a psychological report, a video recorded by the young woman herself, and 42 screenshots of WhatsApp conversations, which the legal representative said were part of the evidence being considered.

According to the description given in the interview, the incident “did not result in copulation, but consisted of constant touching under clothing for erotic purposes.”

Soltero clarified that although Bravo was related to the mother, he was not the biological father of the plaintiff or her sisters. So far, there have been no other complaints, but authorities are continuing to gather information.

Legal framework and potential sanctions

This crime is typically provided for in Article 142L of the Jalisco Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of 3 to 6 years for victims under 12 years of age.

However, if aggravating factors such as living under the same roof, a relationship of trust or financial dependence are proven, the fine could be increased by up to two-thirds.

At the first hearing, which was held behind closed doors, the former player’s attorney reserved his right to testify and requested overlapping constitutional deadlines (144 hours) to gather evidence for the defense.

What is the next step in the process?

A hearing related to this proceeding is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at which point a judge will decide whether there is enough evidence to proceed with criminal proceedings.

Until then, Omar Bravo will be presumed innocent according to the law, and his legal situation will be in the hands of the Jalisco judicial authorities.
