Why was Rodrigo de Paul approved?
“The MLS Disciplinary Committee fined Miami and midfielder Rodrigo de Paul for violating the simulation/exaggeration policy in the 26th minute of the match against New York City FC,” the league said in an official statement.
Images shared by the MLS itself show Argentina falling to the ground and actually squeezing his face after Perea’s arm and slight brush, trying to protect the ball. Video reviews showed that DePaul’s response was disproportionate, leading to sanctions.
Beyond the financial penalty, Rodrigo de Paul will remain available for Intermiami’s Javier Mascherano in upcoming matches. He was even in the starting lineup for the match against Toronto, but that ended with a 1-1 draw.
