IT is rare enough to excel in one sport, but mastering two masters requires extraordinary talent. That’s exactly what it is for young athlete Ryan Leary. Ryan Leary’s skills have earned him both on the soccer team and on the soccer team. But despite the support of his coach, Leary is now facing an astonishing set-off that he is forbidden to play either sport.
The decision is a big set for Ryan Leary, a standout athlete and key player on both rosters known for his skills and commitment to the team. However, Carl Place High School denied the opportunity to compete in both football and football, citing safety concerns as the reason behind the ban.

Despite coach approval, Carl Place High School denies Leary’s chances to play both sports
You don’t find the talent and versatility of Ryan Leary, a standout athlete at Carle Place High School. Leary showed off his skills in soccer, soccer and basketball and quickly became one of the most talked about players in the school. His athletic potential has already attracted attention as a strong candidate for future university sports scholarships.
Nevertheless, the very team that Ryan Leary has defended throughout his high school days cut his wings, preventing him from playing both football and football in upcoming tournaments. The decision is particularly discouraged as the Carl Place seniors were already approved by both football and soccer coaches to compete for the team.
“I took it to Coach Selhorn over the summer and he said, ‘We want you, the team wants to welcome you,'” Leary recalled in an interview with the New York Post. Soccer coach Paul Selhorn was keen to add to the roster and recognized the value he could bring to the team.
“Coach Selhorn was fine. When I spoke to athletic director (Justin) Brock, he told me, ‘This is your decision. If you want to do both, you’re allowed,” Leary explained, recalling his initial approval to pursue both sports.
Ryan Leary was forced to make a choice: Carl Place High School soccer or soccer
However, life has taken an unexpected turn for Leary. Despite his determination to play both sports at the highest level, he was pulled aside by Principal Ted Canone during football practice. The school was ultimately forced him to choose one sport for the season.
“I was heartbroken,” Ryan Leary said. “I decide I’m going to play football and then I hope I’ll sort it all out so I can still play football,” the senior explained his complaints about the ban from both teams, saying, “It was crazy to me because they said yes.
Principal Ted Canone later explained the decision in a statement to News12, citing safety and fairness as the school’s top priorities. “The district’s mindset is based on promoting safety and security for all student-athletes and fairness for all team members. Student-athletes rarely play two high-contact sports in the same season,” Canon said.
