Champions League format
The Champions League has a new format as it starts with the first round, a league phase in which each team plays eight matches against a different opponent. Half of the match is played at home, the rest is played apart, and points are added to the overall ranking.
The top eight teams in the Champions League phase will then qualify directly for the 16th round, while teams ranked 9th to 24th in the rankings compete in the two-legged playoffs to determine the other clubs in the knockout phase.
