Kylian Mbapp started scoring in his second season against Real Madrid, winning Osasuna 1-0 in the opening match of the Spanish league on Tuesday.
The MBAPP, the leading scorer in his debut against Madrid last season, converted a 51-minute penalty kick to give the hosts a victory. A foul was urged as MBAPP went through the right side of the area and a decent cut move continued.
This goal gave new coach Xabi Alonso his first full season of winning debut with the club. The former Madrid player has replaced Carlo Ancelotti, who arrived before the Club World Cup and left to take on a job in Brazil.
Xabi Alonso’s winning debut
Alonso began the match with three new signings for the club for the season – left-back Lvaro Carreras, soon Trent Alexander Arnold and central defender Dean Huysen. Teenage forward Franco Mustuntuno came out of the bench on the 68th to replace Brahim Daz.
Some fans weren’t happy after the former River Plate player praised fellow Argentine Lionel Messi, who was a star of rival Barcelona.
The 18-year-old Mustandoono had the opportunity to score on the 89th, but his shot from the area was saved by Osasuna’s goalkeeper.
Osasuna defender Abel Breton was sent off in stop time with a straight red card due to his high arm to block Madrid forward Gonzalo Garca.
Madrid forward Rodrigo stayed on the bench throughout the match, increasing speculation of possible transfers.
Madrid controlled ownership
The game was played on Tuesday instead of last weekend as Madrid players needed more rest following their team participation in the Club World Cup. Attempts to further delay Madrid’s debut were rejected by the league.
Madrid controlled ownership – over 70% – but struggled to break through the tight Osasuna defense early and threatened with some long-range shots.
MBAPP had one of Madrid’s best first half chances with curling shots from within the area just missed the top corner, but eventually broke through with the winner early in the second half as Madrid continued to move forward. The goalkeeper jumped in the opposite direction and he sent a low shot from the spot to the right of the net.
Barcelona began their title defense on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 victory with a nine-man Marolca, and Atletico Madrid took the lead late on Sunday in a 2-1 loss at Espanyol. Madrid was runner-up to Barcelona in the Spanish league last season. Osasuna finished in 9th place.
