Reuben Amorim has been solidly stanced against Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and other Manchester United players who are desperate to leave the club this summer.

Manchester United boss Reuben Amorim’s hardline stance with Petulant Star is supported to bring the club back to past glory days.

Amorim banned five United players: Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrrell Malacia.

All five want to leave and Amorim doesn’t want their negative influence around the team, so he told them to stay until United’s team sets out on the preseason tour in the US.

Amorim’s ruthless approach is supported by former United defender David May.

“I think this manager is perfect for the club,” said May, who won the treble at United in 1999.

“It just involves some of their players and mentality that they have to leave, they need players who run through the brick walls and don’t ask questions, but continue doing that.

“You can question certain things, but if you haven’t played, you go and see your manager and have it in his office. Don’t do it on the press or social media.

“You’re looking at some players and their body language. I think there are 10 average players who take off their socks than these Primadnas who don’t mind.

“Only when I leave the club as a player I think, ‘Wow, that’s a special place.’

“These players have to recognize that. I spoke to Reuben and he said, ‘The club is amazing, it’s very special, but I feel it’s betraying the fans because they haven’t gotten results.”

“I told him to all the fans who know he absolutely loves what he’s doing, and he said, ‘Nothing will change until his mentality changes,’ and he’s spot on. ”

United finished in 15th place last season, the lowest finish in their Premier League era, but a loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final means their second European football in 35 years.

But May, who is climbing Snowdon to raise money for the Manchester Unification Foundation next month, believes that the absence of European football could be in the team’s favor. “Sometimes, you have to hit the rock bottom – and I think we’re at the rock bottom,” May said.

“But I think it’s a blessing of disguise. I’m focused on the league every week and don’t have to worry about Europe. Reuben can focus on starting the season. He has a great opening game at the Arsenal home.

“This preseason is about getting the right players and certain players. Masteus Cunya, there’s something about him, he’s a bit like Eric Cantona. He has that nastyness about him. United need it.

“There’s no reason we can’t push the top four next season. We won’t be distracted by Europe. It’s just focusing on every league game. We can’t make excuses and we’re not playing every three or four days like last season.”

David May is climbing Snowdon on August 2nd to raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation. Fans can sign up to join him www.mufoundation.org/snowdon
