The new format of Leagues Cup 2025 will feature 18 teams from Liga MX and 18 clubs from MLS, promoting rivalry between Mexico and the US football. In the first phase, Leagues Cup 2025 will have a group stage played over a week. It should be noted that the Mexican team hasn’t worked well in previous editions of Leagues Cup. This has led to criticism of teams who are required to be protagonists, such as Club America, Cruz Azur, Monterrey and Tigress. There were also questions about whether Mexican clubs take this competition seriously.
New League Cup Format for 2025
The 2025 Leagues Cup qualifying stage will be played from July 29th to August 7th. Each team will face three rivals from the opposing league, with a total of eight teams being qualified from Riga MX and four from MLS.
The local competition will not halt as the qualifiers will be performed in a staggering way. The quarter-finals will be held on August 19th and 20th. The semi-finals will then be held on August 26th and 27th. Finally, the final and third place match will take place on August 31st.
