Chelsea made history in America by winning the first edition of this newly improved Club World Cup format. The Londoners completed their dream season: Conference League and World Cup. 1916 Copa America: Uruguay
Uruguay won the first edition of Copa America in Argentina in 1916. There were only four participants: Argentina (host), Uruguay, Brazil and Chile. All teams competed against each other, and the team with the most points was the champion. Uruguay defeated a goalless draw against Chile (4-0), Brazil (2-1) and Argentina
1930 World Cup: Uruguay
The same result was also achieved for the first edition of the World Cup. The Uruguayans made history by becoming the first team in history to win the first World Cup. And they did so in their own country. It was a rare tournament as only 13 teams participated.
Uruguay was portrayed in the three-person group (beating Romania and Peru in the group stage), Yugoslavia, the semi-finals (6-1) and Argentina again in the finals (4-2). They won again in 1950.
1956 European Cup: Real Madrid
The Spanish team was not missing from this list. Europe’s most successful team, Real Madrid won the first edition of the 1955-1956 European Cup, defeating Stade Rymes 4-3 in the final at the Park des Princess in Paris. Since then, a romance with Madrid’s favorite competition has begun. Up to five consecutive times (1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960).
Later, when the European Cup was renamed the Champions League, Real Madrid once again proved whether they were king of this competition. Madrid won nine more titles under the Champions League format, founded in 1992
1956 AFC Asian Cup: Korea
The first in history brought together three winning teams in the qualifying round. South Vietnam, Israel and host Hong Kong. The same model as Copa America, all teams played against each other. The Koreans were the champions, winning two matches and facing South Vietnam in the final 5-3
1957 Africa Cup of Nations: Egypt
It was held in Sudan, where it brought together the most important teams in Africa: Egypt, Sudan, South Africa and Ethiopia. The champions in Egypt defeated Sudan 2-1 in the semi-finals and Ethiopia 4-0 in the finals – reaching the final after South Africa withdrew from the semi-finals – disqualified for political reasons
1958 Intercity Fair Cup: FC Barcelona
One of the most prestigious European club tournaments ever existed. Barcelona is proud to be the first champion in history. It was a competition born from FIFA and was in effect from the 1970 to 1971 season.
A total of 12 teams participated and were divided into four groups. The Catalans passed the group stage without any problems, beating Birmingham City in the semi-finals in the third playoffs and defeating the London team (2-2 and 6-0) in the final. Barca won the Fair Cup three times (1958, 1960 and 1966)
1960 European Countries Cup: Soviet Union
Only four teams have reached the final stages of France, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union. In the semi-finals, the Soviets defeated Czechoslovakia 3-0, and ended up in Yugoslavia 2-1
1960 Coparibatadores: Pier Roll
It was one of the most important tournaments existing, previously known as the Copa do Campenes de America and now the Copa Commell libertador, attracting champions from seven South American countries: San Lorenzo, Esport Club Baia, Penalol, Milonalios, Milonalios, Dekire University, Horghelsterman, Jorge Wilsterman, Club Orispia
As with Copa America and the World Cup, Uruguay was a big winner. Home and away match (3rd, tiebreaker). Penalol was the first champion, beating the Bolivian (Jorge Wilsterman) 2-8 in the quarterfinals, 2-8, 2-3 to San Lorenzo de Almagro in the semifinals, and 1-2 in the Olim finals for Paragay.
2000 Club World Cup (old form): Corinthians
The first edition was held in Brazil, with a total of eight teams. From UEFA: Real Madrid (winner of the 1998 InterContinental Cup) and Manchester United (winner of the 1998-1999 Champions League). From Conmebol: Vasco de Gama and Corinthians. The lineup was completed by Necaxa (Concacaf), Al-Nassr (AFC), Raja Casablanca (CAF), and South Melbourne (OFC).
The format consisted of two groups, each of four teams. Only the first team passed, and the champions were Corinthians. They were the leaders of the group stage (2-2 against Real Madrid), and in the final, they defeated Vasco Da Gama (Leader of Group B) in a penalty shootout (4-3) after 0-0 at the end of the extra time.
2019 Nations League: Portugal
UEFA has created tournaments to eliminate friendly matches. Switzerland, the Netherlands, Portugal and the UK were four teams that participated in the first edition of the international league.
Portugal defeated Switzerland 3-1 in the semi-finals, and Cristiano’s hat-trick defeated 1-0 against the Netherlands in the final. They will continue to hold the title against a penalty against Spain last June
