Arsenal ended their 22-year wait to win the Premier League earlier this month and will be desperate to follow that triumph with victory in Saturday’s Champions League final.
Martin Odegaard says Arsenal are determined to make “further history” by winning the Champions League.
The Gunners are already toasting their first Premier League title in 22 years and have their sights set on winning their first European Cup. Arsenal have already received a huge boost after Julien Timber was declared fit to start against Paris Saint-Germain, and Odegaard said they were ready to seize the moment.
Gunners captain Odegaard said: “It’s certainly something special for us to achieve because we’ve never achieved it before. As you say, it’s been 22 years since we last won the Premier League and now we’ve finally achieved it.”
“We want to make more history and when you get the taste of winning and lifting the trophy, you know how good it feels.
“Of course we want to do it again. It will mean a lot to everyone and to the supporters as well. We are ready for it and we are looking forward to the game.”
Odegaard revealed that winning the European Cup has been his dream since childhood and explained exactly what it would mean for the team.
He said: “Yeah, for sure. It’s been that way since I was a kid. Ever since I grew up playing football, I’ve dreamed of winning these trophies.”
“When I started playing with my friends on the little pitch next to my house, I dreamed of this moment: to win a trophy, to play in this final and of course to win. That dream has been there all my life, but in recent weeks it has become a little longer.”
Odegaard admitted that winning the Premier League took the pressure off him, but insisted that his desire to win the Champions League had not, in fact, changed.
“I don’t feel like I’m a different person. But obviously, it was something really, really special. And it’s something that we’ve been fighting for for a long time. Of course, like you say, under that pressure and all the noise outside of people saying we can’t do it and all that.”
“Of course, that’s gone. I don’t know, but for us, not much has changed other than a great feeling and a great result. But the mindset is still the same. We want to come here and win tomorrow.”
“I think we have to embrace all the positive things, all the good emotions, all the good energy and good experiences. We’ve been through a lot as a group.
“I think everything we’ve been through has prepared us well for the last few weeks and for tomorrow. We’re ready for it.”
