ENzo Ferndes spent Monday in Madrid. As he himself admitted a month ago, he said he wanted to live there. Chelsea interpreted these comments as a nod to Real Madrid and a signal that he wanted to leave the Blues this summer, and punished him by giving him a two-game ban.
His presence in the Spanish capital caused all sorts of speculation, but the reasons initially had nothing to do with football. The Argentine played in the Madrid Open tennis tournament alongside Cucurella, Ju Pedro and their partners after helping Chelsea reach the FA Cup final with a header. There they will face Josep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the title.
Enzo took advantage of the time off granted by current Blues head coach Callum MacFarlane following the sacking of Liam Rosenior. His appearance in Madrid sparked speculation on social media, but there is no evidence that this trip has anything to do with a possible move to Real Madrid.
The player took a similar opportunity to travel to Madrid last season, watch tennis and spend a few hours in the city. When Chelsea decided to suspend Enzo Ferndes over his controversial comments, the player’s agent, Javier Pastore, said: “He didn’t mention any club, he didn’t say he wanted to leave Chelsea. When asked which European city he wanted to live in in the future, he only talked about Madrid.”
