Manchester United could sign four free agents this season as they look to win the Premier League title | Soccer | Sports

Manchester United are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season, but will need to make smart moves in the transfer market. The prospect of fighting on the front lines was a pipe dream just a few months ago, but their recent resurgence under Michael Carrick has brought a new wave of optimism.

Of course, if United really want to knock off Arsenal, they will need a strong transfer window. They have already completed a number of signings, with the likes of Andrej Santos and Youri Tielemans arriving at Old Trafford. But they could steal an advance from their rivals by entering the free agent market and unearthing potential gems.

Express Sport takes a look at four free players who could help turn United into Premier League title contenders…

Perhaps the most appealing name on this list, the former Juventus striker will be a sure-fire replacement for Benjamin Sesco next season.

Scoring a total of 27 club goals over the past two seasons, he certainly knows where the onion sack is and there’s plenty of room for improvement considering he’s still just 26 years old. Signing on a free transfer can be low risk and high reward, so what’s not to like?

United are widely rumored to be looking to sign a new centre-back this summer, especially if Matthijs de Ligt leaves, and they could do far worse than trying to sign the ambitious John Stones.

He is still fully capable of playing at the highest level and will bring plenty of trophy-winning experience. However, his long-standing relationship with Manchester City means he may not be a starter in any potential move.

United have already signed two central midfielders this summer, but they are thought to still be eyeing a third signing.

Franck Keshi, who was one of the most coveted players in Europe just a few seasons ago, now finds himself without a club. He will work with the Red Devils next season and could provide a key addition to their return to European football after a year away.

The veteran right-back would be a solid pickup for United, purely in terms of bringing experience to the dressing room. He is a born winner and his presence will do wonders for the younger members of the team.

He isn’t expected to start many games, but successful teams need players like him when the going gets tough, which will inevitably happen over the course of a 38-game season.
