Man UTD 5-0 Rosenborg: Michael Carrick’s side started their pre-season campaign with a five-star win, thanks to goals from Shea Lacey, Joshua Zirkzee, Jacob Devaney, Harry Amas and Ethan Williams.
Wonderkid Shay Lacey grabbed his chance with both hands as he scored in Manchester United’s first pre-season win. The Red Devils lost 1-0 to Wrexham in Finland on Saturday and traveled to Norway looking to bounce back against Rosenborg.
Michael Carrick secured a much-needed victory thanks to Lacey’s goal that broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. The 19-year-old striker ran off Rosenborg’s high line after being slipped past by Joshua Zirkzee. Joshua Zirkzee started just one of Carrick’s 17 games last season and has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus.
As the Norwegian side scrambled back, Lacey showed his composure by cutting inside with his left foot and firing into the left side of the goal. Although it wasn’t an official game, it was his first goal at senior level and boosted the already highly rated teenager’s stock.
The crowd full of United supporters were delighted to see the goal, but manager Patrick Dorg didn’t seem too pleased with the appearance of the goal. United’s star player, who plays on the left of midfield, wanted Lacey to square the ball rather than try to score himself. Dawg threw his arms in the air, but eventually came over to Lacey and congratulated her.

Yoro Rennie hit the crossbar with a header before half-time, during which Carrick made a few changes. Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw replaced Jadan Camerson and Harry Amass to create a more youthful-looking eleven.
United maintained their advantage and doubled their lead shortly after the break as Zirksee made a brilliant transition from provider to goalscorer. The Dutchman initially took part in the build-up, flicking the ball to Amass before returning it to the edge of the penalty area.

After sending off a defender with a hot dog that made his cute body swoon, Zirksee pulled off the same trick again right in front of the goalie, allowing a goal into an empty goal. The 25-year-old scored just two goals last season, his most recent coming in December, and will be hoping for a more productive campaign this time around.
Carrick made his substitutions with an hour remaining, making eight changes, all of them outfielders. The Fletcher twins, Tyler and Jack, were in midfield with Chido Obi leading the line.
It took midfielder Jacob Devaney two minutes to make an impact. When a corner kick fell gently seven yards from goal, the Republic of Ireland youth international smashed the ball into the roof of the net to make it 3-0.
Amas and Ethan Williams were the last to shine, with both finishing at the back post and giving Camazon two assists to round out an impressive second half. United’s next match is against Atletico Madrid in Stockholm on Saturday, August 1st.
