Jurgen Klopp has been appointed Germany manager, his first job as an international manager, and is set to reunite with two former Liverpool colleagues.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is set to reunite with his former Liverpool managers after taking over as Germany national team manager. The 59-year-old is expected to be officially appointed as his country’s head coach soon.

Prior to the announcement of his appointment, manager Klopp had made a decision on his desired backroom team at the DFB, and appears to be keen on reuniting the team several times.

According to Germany’s Sky newspaper, Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawitz, who both worked closely with him during his time at Liverpool, are expected to be appointed to his team.

Regarding their relationship in 2020, the former said, “There’s a very dynamic relationship between us. It’s more than just an assistant and a manager. So what I’m saying is that I believe this job requires 100 percent trust because we have to make so many decisions every day.”

“I love working for him. He understands who I am and respects that. We know what to expect from each other.

“Jurgen is a true leader. He inspires and motivates. What he says still amazes me every day. His brain works differently than many other brains.

“He sees through situations and processes. There’s a saying that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

“And I think everyone who works with Jurgen feels that he genuinely cares about you and your development. There’s no ego, he’s genuinely looking for what’s right.”

Since then, Reynders has spent seven months at Red Bull Salzburg, where he began his managerial career. He then returned to the Premier League after being appointed assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, a job Klopp encouraged him to take.

“The moment Pep called and the feeling he gave me about what he wanted to do with the team by bringing me in, and the trust he already had before even discussing what it would be, made the decision a lot easier,” Lijnders said.

“But I can’t end my 10 years at Liverpool so easily. But I’m really proud to have come to a club of this size, with so much success over the last 10 years, under a manager who has defined football. When I spoke to Jurgen, he made it clear: ‘If you don’t do it, I’ll take the assistant job.’

Elsewhere, Krawietz worked alongside Klopp at Liverpool until his departure in 2024. Sven Bender is also expected to be named as part of the new structure of the German national team.
