England’s next manager decided after Thomas Tuchel’s sacking decision and Josep Guardiola twist | Soccer | Sports

England fans have named the manager they want to lead the Three Lions to Euro 2028 following their national team’s World Cup exit. Despite securing a third-place finish, their best result since 1966, there remains a sense of disappointment after losing to Argentina in the semi-finals. England surrendered a narrow lead with six minutes remaining and suffered a stunning defeat.

Manager Thomas Tuchel was widely blamed for the defeat, as England suffered an unfortunate setback while trying to protect their advantage. As time went on, they placed six defenders on the pitch, sitting deep in a 5-4-1 formation. Between Anthony Gordon’s opening goal and Lisandro Martinez’s winning header two minutes into stoppage time, England had just 12 per cent of possession.

Their defensive shift was disastrous and there were widespread calls for Tuchel to be sacked after the final whistle.

However, after some thought, it appears that many England fans would like the 52-year-old to stay and see out his contract until the end.

More than 36 per cent of respondents in the latest poll said they wanted Tuchel to stay on, making him the most popular choice to lead the Three Lions into the next tournament cycle.

Josep Guardiola came in second with 34% of the vote, ahead of Eddie Howe (10%) and Frank Lampard (8%).

It recently emerged that the FA have no plans to sack Tuchel in light of England’s heartbreaking World Cup exit. He signed a contract extension earlier this year and remains tied up until Euro 2028.

Meanwhile, among those who want Tuchel to be sacked, Guardiola appears to be the likely candidate to replace him.

It was recently reported that the Spaniard has been approached by FA bosses for a role in 2024 after manager Gareth Southgate resigned.

He left the Etihad Stadium at the end of last season and has since agreed to become City Football Group’s global ambassador.

In his new role, the 55-year-old is expected to provide technical advice and work on special projects across the club’s global network.
