Manchester United were one of the clubs linked with a move for West Ham winger Crisencio Somerville, but it appears the Dutchman is set to move elsewhere.

Manchester United are set to lose Crisencio Somerville, with the West Ham star on the verge of a move to Saudi Arabia. The Red Devils have been linked with a raid for the Dutchman this summer following the Hammers’ relegation from the Premier League.

They were interested in him along with Matheus Fernandes, who eventually made a big-money move to Tottenham Hotspur. However, United are also likely to face setbacks in their bid to sign the former Leeds man.

The Londoners have agreed a £68m deal with Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal. Italian giants Roma were also interested, but only offered around £39 million.

Somerville, who scored five goals in the Premier League last season, will undergo a medical before completing his move to the Middle East. Meanwhile, West Ham will aim to reinvest their significant fees in an attempt to gain promotion from the Championship on first request.

The Hammers’ only other signing to date is with Venezuelan international Keiber Lamadrid. But the big boost was Jarrod Bowen’s decision to commit his future to the club.

He said at the time: “My main motivation is to stay and get this club back into the Premier League, where it belongs. It was only natural to speak at the right time. In the end it (relegation) hurt everyone and it will hurt everyone.”

“I flew to Prague to meet (club directors) Daniel (Krechinski) and Jiri (Swark) and see the ambitions I got from them. I’m certainly very interested in terms of the direction the club wants to go. This club means a lot to me, so it didn’t take long.”

“For me, the longer you’re here, the more you love it, the more you grow into the club, the more you grow into your role, and I think that’s what I’ve done.

“I’ve been here for six and a half years now, and I’ve changed from a boy to a man, but I’ve never tried to run away from anything.

“There are things we can do better, but certainly my personality is to never run away from something or shift responsibility, on or off the pitch.

“I always try to stand up for them and live my life as West Ham captain and as a fan.

“I see myself as a West Ham fan for the next few years. So I always think, ‘What would I want as a fan if they got the chance to play on the pitch?’ For me, I think I’m that kind of character too. So I think that’s the way it is.”
