Donald Trump has been brutally torn apart by Democratic Rep. Yaasmin Ansari over whether to qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals. After the final whistle, the U.S. president was at the forefront of congratulating Spain on their victory over Argentina, as he presented medals to both groups of athletes.
But his presence didn’t end there, as FIFA president Gianni Infantino invited Trump to break with tournament protocol and walk the prestigious trophy from the pedestal to the podium, but lingered as Spain captain Rodri tried to hoist it aloft for the first time. “No one wanted him there,” said Ansari, who has been an outspoken critic of President Trump since becoming the representative for Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District last year.
“I love the World Cup,” she told Meidas Touch. “It showed how united we are in contrast to what divides us. Donald Trump is the exact opposite of that.”
Ansari stressed that President Trump did not just ruin the World Cup final trophy presentation ceremony. “He made the whole experience of a World Cup hosted by the United States very difficult,” she added.
“For example, we know that they had Iranian players traveling inside and outside the country. They were discriminated against. A referee from Somalia wasn’t even allowed into the country.”
Having qualified from Asia, Iran was forced to move its World Cup training base from Tempe, Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico City. The team entered the United States on the day of the game and departed immediately after the final whistle.
Somali referee Omar Artan was refused entry to the United States at a Florida airport despite being appointed by FIFA to referee the World Cup. Mr. Altan was not given a clear explanation of his refusal to enter the country and subsequently returned to Somalia.
Earlier this year, Ansari accused President Trump of being “mentally unstable and an evil human being” in an interview with the Guardian.
“There is no question that he is mentally unstable and not all stable, but I also believe that he is a very troubled and evil human being who only cares about himself and his family,” she said.
“He’s shown that throughout his life. He’s shown it throughout his presidency by depriving average Americans of health care and basic necessities while he and his family made billions of dollars.”
