Cristiano Ronaldo likes a post calling FIFA “corrupt” after Lionel Messi advances to the World Cup finals

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo both played in this summer’s last World Cup, but Argentina reached the final at the age of 39.

Cristiano Ronaldo apparently liked an Instagram post days after the World Cup final in which he called FIFA “corrupt” and “like a mafia”. The Portugal icon was playing in his final tournament of the summer, helping his country reach the last 16.

Portugal was ultimately defeated by Spain. Ronaldo’s long-time rival Lionel Messi did quite well, leading Argentina to the final just four years after lifting the trophy in Qatar.

However, their run has been criticized this time around, with some claiming that the South American nation had made more than favorable refereeing decisions during the tournament.

Spanish journalists Pilar Rodríguez Lo Santos and Rubén Amon discussed exactly why FIFA has been labeled as “one of the most corrupt organizations on the planet” and a “sneaky, mafia-like, disgraceful organization.”

Ronaldo apparently liked the video of their discussion on Instagram. Messi also spoke out in the aftermath of his team’s latest heartbreak.

“The pain is immense and it will take time for this wound to heal. But I also hold on to all the good things…the games we gave our all to come back from, the moments that will remain in our memories forever, and the support of our entire country. This group’s hard work and efforts combined have put us back among the world’s elite.”

“It is difficult to fully appreciate our achievements now, but this group has reached the World Cup finals for the second time in a row. We sincerely appreciate all the greetings and messages.”

“Once again, we were able to come together as a nation, sharing an immense pride in being Argentinians. I would also like to congratulate Spain on their victory.”

Ronaldo also issued his own statement following Portugal’s exit at the hands of the eventual champions. He said: “It’s a shame to leave the World Cup like this.

“I gave it my all. I gave it my best. Yes, this was my last World Cup. But now I have time to think it over and be with my family. I won’t make any rash decisions.”

“I don’t make decisions in the heat of the moment. Whether I continue (to play) or not doesn’t matter right now. Tomorrow I’m going to wake up with a clear conscience, just like I woke up today.”

“I played for the national team for 23 years and won three titles. Before Cristiano, Portugal didn’t win anything. The Euros were the most important. To be honest, for me 2016 is on the same level as the World Cup.”
