Poll: Should Thomas Tuchel be sacked as England manager? Vote now | Soccer | Sports

Tuchel signed a two-year contract extension until Euro 2028 in February, but has faced significant backlash for his tactics. Goals from Enzo Fernandes and Lautaro Martínez seemed inevitable, and many felt that England could have continued playing without ceding possession and territory to their opponents.

Directly asked if he would stay after the World Cup, Tuchel replied: “We intend to stay under contract until the Euros at home.”

“It’s hard to think that far ahead right now, but I’m looking forward to it.”

However, many fans and pundits believe Tuchel should not get the chance to lead England again after Saturday’s third-place match against France.

Express Sport wants to hear from you. Vote in the poll below and join in the comments on whether you think Tuchel should be sacked as England manager.

Captain Harry Kane, who could be playing in his final World Cup, insisted the message from the touchline was to continue attacking in the aftermath of Gordon’s opener.

But when Tuchel quickly brought on defenders Ezri Konsa, Dan Byrne and Nico O’Reilly to protect his dwindling lead, his words were hard to fathom.

“We struggled to put pressure on the ball (after the goal),” Kane said. “I especially thought so in the first half and at the start of the second half we pressed them well, especially high up the pitch. That allowed us to win the ball and control the game a little bit better.”

“After the goal, we had wave after wave after wave, whether they were putting more guys in front of us or we just couldn’t match them man-to-man. Guys were putting blocks in, but ultimately it wasn’t enough.”

“The players were always ready for every moment of the game. When we took the lead, the message was to go again and get another goal. After they scored two goals, it was to try to find something, but we just couldn’t find the momentum to get back into the game.”
