David Beckham claimed his wife Victoria was “inwardly celebrating” after footage of her quiet reaction to England’s harrowing World Cup quarter-final clash went viral. The former Three Lions captain and his children Romeo, 23, Cruz, 21, and Harper, 15, all went wild when Jude Bellingham scored the equalizer against Norway.
However, photos from the moment showed Victoria, 52, sitting without moving, with her chin resting on her hand. Fans turned it into an instant meme that took the world by storm.
Stand-up comedian Jenny Johnson wrote online: “There’s nothing like rooting for England wholeheartedly from home. Then they cut to Victoria and we see that classic Classy Spice smile! So contagious!”
“I thought watching sports would keep me energized, but Victoria has blown away my enthusiasm!
“Every time I see her, I scream, ‘Spice up your life!!!’ Her energy is electric!!!”
David, 51, posted a series of crying-laughing emojis. “She was celebrating in her heart, but I promise you her reaction was slightly slower than mine,” he wrote.
Victoria warmed up with the energy inside Miami Stadium and was then seen clapping and cheering for England’s 2-1 win in extra time and the semi-final against Argentina tomorrow (Wednesday).
The former Spice Girl admitted she wasn’t a football fan when she met David at a Manchester United match in 1997. A doting wife, she tried to attend every game she could, but admitted she didn’t enjoy soccer because she didn’t feel “needed” pitchside.
But she claims she recently had a change of heart after David quit his job and set up his own club, Inter Miami, in the US. She told the Financial Times: “I’ve never enjoyed watching football. I’ve never necessarily felt wanted. Poor guy, I’m not saying this, but it’s never been as fun as it is now. Now in Miami, I feel wanted. I’m friends with the players’ families.”
Images, including one of her hugging David, were shared on her social media after England’s win over Norway. she wrote: “A special moment for my family and our country xxxx tonight in Miami.”
