A man has sparked controversy after reselling World Cup tickets he bought from a friend and making a huge profit.
But rather than attend the match, the man opted to flog a $3,000 (£2,240) ticket and watch the game from the comfort of his home.
This move did not sit well with his friends, who felt let down after doing him a favor and argue that the tickets should have been refused first before being resold to strangers.
Posting on Reddit to solicit public opinion, the man asked: “If my friend got a World Cup lottery ticket and sold me the ticket at face value, and then I resold it for $3,000 (£2,240), am I a crazy person?”
“My friend called me and said, ‘Just kidding,’ but I could tell he was a little annoyed. I realized I wasn’t going to be able to attend the game, so I decided to resell the tickets.”
“Should I have sold it back to him and gotten back what I paid for it? Or was it, after all, a ticket to do what I wanted?”
Although many acknowledged that he was technically entitled to do whatever he wanted with tickets, the majority sided with his friend and claimed that he had abused his generosity.
one user said: “It’s no big deal to you, he was the one who got the ticket and was generous enough to give it to you at face value.
“You can’t make $3,000 with his work and luck. Give him tickets to resell yourself or send him the profits you made.”
Another added: “Either give him the money you earned or at least split it in half or sell it back to him for $250.”
A third commented: “Give it back. Or at least contact the friend who made the effort to enter the lottery in the first place.”
“You suck for not giving it back to him at face value first. He worked so hard to get it in the first place and you wouldn’t even have gotten them if he hadn’t made it happen,” another said.
A final user added: “Sell the ticket back to him at face value, or split the money if he’s okay with it. If not, you’re fucked. The fact that he sold you the ticket at face value shows he’s a good friend.”
“Trying to cheat on tickets by 10 times the price is also outrageous.”
