Manchester United agreed a £39m deal for Ederson with Atalanta over a month ago, but manager Michael Carrick’s side have reportedly decided not to sign him.
It has been reported that Ederson has been ruled out of a move to Manchester United after failing a medical. The 27-year-old’s contract has been in place since the beginning of June, with United agreeing to pay Atalanta a fixed fee of £35m and add-ons of £4m.
The Brazil international underwent his first medical at the World Cup last month, but United wanted to carry out further tests before sanctioning his arrival. Ederson also said during the tournament that the transfer was “virtually all resolved.”
But on Friday, a bombshell report emerged from Italy that United had chosen not to press ahead with the move and had communicated their decision to Atalanta. The Serie A club believes Ederson is 100 percent fit and will be ready to welcome him back.
Other reports say Ederson will undergo further tests before United make a decision. The Times reported that his transfer was in jeopardy due to a knee injury.

It comes as the Red Devils are close to signing Chelsea midfielder Andrej Santos for £48m. United’s priority in the summer transfer window will be rebuilding their midfield, with Chelsea willing to sell the 22-year-old Brazilian.
Ederson is said to be keen to join Michael Carrick’s side, who could offer him Champions League football and a starring role. After Casemiro’s departure, Koby Mainu is the only senior central midfielder at Carrick’s disposal.

And Mainu will miss the first part of pre-season as he is currently away on tour in England. United have already lost several midfield targets this summer, sending Elliott Anderson to Manchester City and Matheus Fernandes to West Ham.
Apart from midfield, the Red Devils want a new backup goalkeeper with Premier League experience. Karl Darlow is in talks over a rare move from Leeds.
