Harry Kane insists he is not the same player as Erling Haaland, despite the two praising each other for scoring goals.
Ahead of England’s World Cup quarter-final match against Norway, Kane was asked who was the better striker, but instead of answering he took the opportunity to set the record straight with a comparison to Manchester City’s marksman.
The 32-year-old said: “That’s impossible for me to answer. First of all, I think we’re completely different players because I know we’re both considered strikers, but to be honest I think we play in two completely different positions.”
“Erling is unbelievable, his scoring record speaks for itself, physically he’s a machine, he’s a beast, his finishing is at the highest level.
“I see myself as a different player. Even though we’re scoring the same goals, I’d like to touch the ball a little more and be a little more involved in the play. But we can also play as an out-and-out nine, but I don’t think that’s something we should compare ourselves to.”
“I have a lot of respect for him as a player and as a fellow professional. Of course I hope he has a quiet game tomorrow, but I think his overall performance lately speaks for itself. He’s a great player.”
