Alejandro Garnacho’s future could end with him leaving Chelsea just 12 months after joining from Manchester United. According to The Athletic, the winger has been removed from the club’s ‘not for sale’ list.
football.london understands that Chelsea have no interest in loaning the 22-year-old and will only allow him to leave permanently. The Blues are yet to hold formal negotiations between the clubs, but are open to moving Garnacho after his disappointing debut. This could come as welcome news for United, who sold the winger for £40m last summer.
His time at Old Trafford came to an acrimonious end after a falling out with Ruben Amorim left him free to meet demands. It appears United’s smart negotiations could yield significant financial benefits.
The club shrewdly included a 10% sell-on clause in his contract. Garnacho remained at the west London club until 2032, making 43 appearances in his first season.
The Argentine has struggled to establish a starting berth under either Enzo Maresca or Liam Rosenior, and his chances are likely to be equally slim under incoming manager Xabi Alonso.
Chelsea have already strengthened their wide range of options with the introduction of Giovani Quenda, putting further pressure on Garnacho. The promising youngster has been undertaking individual training at the club’s Cobham base ahead of the first-team squad’s return later this week.
Garnacho is not the only player who could strengthen United’s financial resources this summer. Forward Mason Greenwood appears destined to leave Marseille, with Roma also interested.
United officials have inserted a substantial sell-on clause that is said to allow up to 50% of future transfer fees. The Italian team are reportedly preparing a bid of €45 million (approximately £38.6 million).
If Hull City are successful in signing Facundo Pellistri, the club could secure additional profits. United released Pellistri to Panathinaikos in August 2024, but reportedly included a 50% sell-on clause.
