Mo Salah could make a successful return to his old club amid confusion in the race for former Liverpool star

Mohamed Salah is available on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool and is likely to be wanted by a number of clubs once Egypt’s World Cup campaign ends.

AS Roma and Juventus are said to be exploring the possibility of signing Mohamed Salah as he considers his options after leaving Liverpool.

Salah is currently playing for Egypt at the World Cup, but the 34-year-old remains linked with the club, with long-standing interest in the 34-year-old from some of the biggest teams in the professional league, particularly in Saudi Arabia. Al Ittihad had previously offered £150m to sign Salah in the summer of 2023, but this was rejected by Liverpool and they remain keen on the veteran.

However, given that there is at least some chance that Salah will remain in Europe, a long-discussed move to the Middle East is far from certain.

The Mail reports that Roma, who Salah joined from Liverpool, are also among the teams considering the possibility of signing the former attacker.

Juventus are doing the same, and Salah has high praise for coach Luciano Spalletti. However, finances are likely to be a major obstacle for either team in acquiring players who bring in big salaries.

This could be a problem for Salah’s other suitors, as well as players from the Saudi Pro League such as Al Ittihad and Al Hilal.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah appeared overcome with emotion as he applauded fans after making his last appearance for the club during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Brentford at Anfield.

The United States has been touted as another possible destination for Salah, but the paper adds that Turkish clubs are also interested in the four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner.

Salah’s next move is likely to become clearer after the World Cup, with Egypt set to face Argentina in the Round of 16 on Tuesday night.

Salah scored one goal and provided two assists in four games to help Egypt reach the knockout stages, but they will need to defeat the reigning champions with high hopes to advance to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

“We’re still assessing the situation. We have time now. We’re going to the World Cup, and then everything will become clear,” he said in May, alluding to the fact that he would delay making a decision on his next move until after the World Cup.

“If there’s a good opportunity by then, I’ll decide, but if not, I’ll decide after the World Cup.”
