Location of England’s training ground leaked by Mexican media amid concerns of World Cup interference

The location of England’s new training base in Mexico has been revealed.

Mexican media have revealed where England will be training for the 2026 World Cup. It comes as concerns grow that thousands of Mexican supporters will descend on the team hotel and derail the Three Lions’ bid to reach the last 16 by depriving them of valuable sleep.

England will face tournament co-hosts Mexico on Monday at 1am BST, or Sunday evening local time. Thomas Tuchel’s team defeated the Democratic Republic of the Congo 2-1 in the last tournament, but Mexico is expected to face an even tougher challenge at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

There are fears that Mexican fans may disrupt the England team on the eve of the match. This followed the Ecuadorian Football Federation’s formal complaint to FIFA after thousands of supporters gathered outside the team hotel in Ecuador and forced players to sleep through the night ahead of the last-32 tie, which the hosts won.

The fans knew where Ecuador was staying and made quite a bit of noise from midnight until early morning. Ecuadorian authorities were furious at the lack of sportsmanship and the poor conditions the players had to endure.

Similar concerns now swirl around England’s visit, as FIFA rules state teams must arrive at the venue at least 24 hours before kick-off, making it inevitable that they will spend at least one night on Mexican soil.

The Three Lions are bracing for serious disruption, with locals prepared to use loudspeakers, car horns, music, motorbikes and other means to deny Tuchel’s players the rest they need.

Mexican players celebrate their team's victory and advancement to the last 16 after the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match between Mexico and Ecuador at Mexico City Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico on June 30, 2026.

However, while England officials had sought to keep the location of the team hotel a secret, the location of the pre-match training facility has already been made public. Several Mexican media outlets reported that Tuchel’s players will train at La Cantera (Quarry), a training ground owned by Liga MX club Universitas Nacional, widely known as Puma.

Once the England team coach arrives, it seems inevitable that the hotel will be leaked. Despite this, the FA secured approval from FIFA to erect barricades around the team hotel. The idea is that these precautions will avoid a similar scene to that seen before the war in Ecuador.

Tuchel is well aware that his team could face turmoil on the eve of the match. “Of course I expect that, but what are we going to do? Of course I’m going to bring (earplugs, etc.), but I’m anticipating everything,” the German said.
