Prince William has promised to fly to the World Cup if England reach the final. The Prince of Wales said he would definitely feature if the Three Lions could win three more knockout games.
After finishing first in their group, England defeated the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the round of 32 and will face Mexico in the round of 16. Thomas Tuchel’s side must win that match in Mexico City, as well as the quarter-finals and semi-finals, to reach the final. The final will be held on July 19th at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Appearing on the New Heights podcast, Prince William was asked if he planned to attend if England made it that far. Podcast co-host Travis Kelce asked, “Now that they’re in the finals, are you going to go across the pond?”
The prince replied, “Absolutely. If we make it to the finals,” to which Kelce responded, “Oh, I love it.” Another co-host, Jason Kelce, added, “Yeah, maybe. Maybe. I’ll see you both there for the finals.”
Prince William has high hopes for England in North America and feels “quietly confident”. When asked what success means for the national team, he answered, “I think it’s winning.”
Thomas Tuchel also received rave reviews from members of the royal family who compared him to Gareth Southgate. “He put them in a really good frame of mind. The team started playing more freely and fluidly…” Oji said.
I think Thomas likes to go out and play a little bit more. And if we lose, we lose the play we want. And if you’re going to score four goals, we’ll score five. And I think that’s a really good attitude. ”
Harry Kane also received royal approval. Prince William said: “Harry Kane may be one of the greatest English strikers we’ve ever seen.”
Speaking about the tournament as a whole right after the start, he said, “It’s amazing. I think it was a great World Cup. I think we got off to a really good start and it was a well-balanced tournament.”
He also praised their stadium. Prince said: “I think the size of the stadium is going to be quite a culture shock for a lot of fans. We know our football very well so to be able to see a stadium that’s bigger and has a great atmosphere that we can emulate here is pretty big.”
