Close friend of footballer confirms death of wife and two children in heartbreaking social media post
Argentine soccer player Lucas Trejo’s wife and two children have been found dead in Venezuela. Around 1,500 people lost their lives in the earthquake that devastated the South American country.
Those who died included Trejo’s wife, Yanina Maranella, and their two young children, Aaron Trejo and Ainoa Trejo. The family was in Playa Grande when the disaster occurred and their apartment building collapsed.
Trejo began a frantic search for his loved ones after they were reported missing, and the search continued for 74 hours. In a heartbreaking development, Venezuelan football club Sport Maritimo de la Guaira confirmed the tragic news in an official statement.
“Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira deeply mourns the loss of the family of Lucas Trejo. We pay our respects to his relatives and teammates. After a 74-hour search, they were found dead,” they wrote.
Trejo’s close friend, former Venezuelan international Edson Tortorello, shared the shocking news on Instagram. “I would like to inform all the people of Venezuela and Argentina that the remains of the family of Lucas Trejo have been found,” he said.
“We thank you for your support and extend our deepest condolences to his family. We pray for their eternal life.”

At least 69,000 people are reported missing since a series of devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday (June 24). The La Guaira region north of the capital bore the brunt of the destruction.
Among the confirmed dead is Venezuelan soccer player Iinberto Beroteran, 18. Daisy, the wife of Venezuelan former major league player Gokis Hernandez, also died.
Defender Hector Bello, who plays for second-division club Maritimo de la Guaira, tragically lost his wife Andrea when a building collapsed during the disaster. Andrea died using her body to protect her baby and her one-year-old daughter.
