Written by John Cross of Atlanta.

Nothing brings a crowd to its feet like a rousing rendition of Sweet Caroline.

The support England receive from their supporters is extraordinary and today, with 80 per cent of fans in the stadium, it’s nothing short of breathtaking.

The trip cost a fortune, but the fans came from every corner of the world (including England, of course) with impeccable behavior.

The typical England supporter’s face has changed this World Cup. It is notable that there is a greater presence of expatriates, families, and perhaps corporates than in previous tournaments.

That’s understandable given the circumstances, but last night in Atlanta the terraces were packed with fanatics representing such illustrious clubs as Bradford and Brighton – the list goes on and on.

All walks of life are depicted, highlighting the extraordinary efforts of fans around the world to get here.

Truly remarkable.
