Arsenal have only signed Piero Hincapie so far this summer transfer window, but sporting director Andrea Berta appears to be working on a number of deals behind the scenes.
Arsenal are reportedly looking to make up to six transfers in the next two weeks until this summer. The Gunners have so far only signed loanee Piero Hincapie on a permanent deal for £42.5m.
However, their activity is expected to accelerate during July. This summer’s recruitment efforts are being spearheaded by sporting director Andrea Berta and head of scouting Maurizio Micheli.
The ending of the season at the latest possible stage, due to their appearance in the Champions League final, combined with the ongoing World Cup, would have contributed to a relatively quiet start on the market. Nevertheless, work is said to be going on behind the scenes.
The Daily Mail points out that there is precedent for multiple simultaneous negotiations under Berta’s government. This comes as the Gunners are reportedly preparing to hold talks over Morgan Rogers while also testing Paris Saint-Germain’s commitment to Bradley Barcola.
Arsenal are said to be interested in both players, along with Bruno Guimarães, and are said to have already made a bid. Similarly, the club has reportedly made inquiries regarding Alex Scott and held discussions with Kerim Alaibegovic’s representatives.
Christos Tzoris, who Arsenal are thought to have made an offer for, is another player Arsenal are genuinely interested in signing.
The Mail suggests Mikel Arteta’s side are targeting around four players to strengthen the Premier League title-winning side as they look to defend the trophy next season.
Of the six high-profile players, Alaybegovic, Barcola, Guimarães and Rodgers are still flying the flag for their countries at the World Cup. Scott was training in England’s camp before the start of the tournament, while Tzoris appeared in two friendlies for Greece early last month.
As for the player himself, either Barcola or Rodgers would be the likely candidates to sign the wide forward. On the other hand, Alaybegovic and Tsolis are considered more budget-friendly options.

Guimarães and Scott are interchangeable central midfield options alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. Martin Zvimendi increasingly found himself on the fringes of his manager’s life in the final months of last season.
Arteta called on the club to do more following the defeat in the Champions League final. “We will begin the process of reviewing our actions to date,” the coach said.
“If we want to get to another level, we have to show that ambition, because we are more than capable of doing it. But it requires us to be very, very ambitious, very fast and very smart.”
He added: “We need to work better to improve and find different margins to get results.”
