Manchester United face an important transfer window and manager Michael Carrick is hoping for an encouraging start to his side at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are determined to improve on last season’s third-place finish and make their mark in the Champions League. Brazilian midfielder Ederson is close to completing his move to United from Atalanta, with further additions and a number of departures expected.
With Casemiro leaving the club at the end of his contract, United are in need of reinforcements in midfield, and United are reported to be involved in a bidding war with Tottenham to sign West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes. The Portugal international is one of the players linked with a move to Old Trafford, along with Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali. Elliott Anderson, another of United’s keenest targets, opted to join Manchester City instead.
In terms of his departure, goalkeeper Andre Onana is set to extend his loan to Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club reportedly paying his salary and rental fee. Express Sport brings you an in-depth look at some of the latest news originating from Old Trafford.

Promising young midfielder Cristian Orozco is celebrating his 18th birthday and preparing to start his Man United career. United agreed a deal with the Fortaleza CEIF star last September but will have to wait until July 13, when he comes of age, to officially register.
United are moving quickly by bringing him to Manchester this weekend, along with chief scout Giuseppe Antonaccio, to begin his acclimatization and complete a medical.
Given his young age, the Colombian, whose style of play has drawn comparisons to Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo, is seen as a promising prospect and will initially be included in United’s Under-21 squad.
However, the possibility of some top teams being involved next season cannot be ruled out. With United in the Champions League, Carrick could potentially rotate his team significantly in the Carabao Cup.
United have made an approach to World Cup star Felix Nmeka, according to reports from Germany. Several clubs are thought to be pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s Nmeka, who has received glowing praise for his performances in North America so far this summer.
Sky Germany claims United are looking to fend off “increasing competition” for the 25-year-old and remain undaunted by his long-term contract with Dortmund, which still has four years left and includes a £75.5m buyout clause.
Newcastle are also understood to be keen, but are reportedly seeking a lower offer, which could create an opportunity for Man United to pounce. Nmeka, the younger brother of Leeds United forward Lucas, is appealing for a move to the Premier League.
Felix’s immediate attention will be focused on the World Cup, where Paraguay will face Germany, who finished first in Group E, in the last 32.
