Manchester United are set to grant Andre Onana another season-long loan as he is set to return to Trabzonspor, where he spent all of last season.

Manchester United are set to give the green light to a loan move for Andre Onana as he prepares to spend another season at Trabzonspor.

The Cameroonian made a surprise move to the Turkish side last summer after it became clear he was no longer available, but despite a change of manager, Onana’s future in Manchester remains bleak.

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper impressed during his season with Trabzonspor, helping them win the Turkish Cup against Konyaspor in May, and is now approaching another year at the club.

United sources have confirmed that an agreement is close to being finalized between the two clubs, which avoids an awkward pre-season scenario of Onana returning to training knowing he is looking to play for another club.

The Red Devils decided against trying to bring him back during the summer to compete with Senne Ramens. They felt that Onana’s high salary and outgoing personality made it difficult to include him on the bench, where he was always talked about.

Onana signed for £47.2m from Inter in the summer of 2023, replacing David de Gea. His delivery was seen as a difference maker, but he made a number of mistakes that led to goals, and ultimately his patience wore thin.

Other than Lamence, United’s goalkeeping situation remains uncertain. If a suitable offer were made, they would be willing to let Altai Baindir go, but that would leave them without a number two to work with the Belgian manager, forcing them into the market.

Scotland’s Angus Gunn, who was ineffective in Wednesday night’s heavy defeat to Brazil, has been listed as a possible replacement for Nottingham Forest. He only made one appearance at the City Ground but could be linked with a move to Manchester.

Another goalkeeper United are keeping an eye on is Leeds’ Karl Darlow. Darlow, 35, is out of contract next week but is continuing to negotiate a new deal at Elland Road. Wolves’ Sam Johnstone has also been linked, with the 33-year-old coming from United’s academy.
