Manchester United are reportedly in the frame to sign Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Choameni this summer as they aim to revamp their midfield following Casemiro’s departure.
Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to sanction Aurélien Choameny’s departure as Manchester United remain linked with a move for the French international. United’s summer priorities will focus on overhauling their midfield, particularly following Casemiro’s departure due to his contract expiring.
According to Gianluigi Longari of SportItalia, Real are increasing their chances of signing Choameni and are willing to allow the 26-year-old to leave the Santiago Bernabéu this summer. However, the report suggests that the midfielder wants to remain with the La Liga powerhouse.
The most recent midfielder to swap Old Trafford for Real was Casemiro, who won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup during his time at the club. It was also revealed over the weekend that Real’s next manager Jose Mourinho has identified Chelsea star Enzo Fernandes as his main target in midfield.
However, for a deal to materialize, Choameni may need to be released in order to generate funds and make space for the Argentine’s arrival. When asked about Choameni’s potential move to Old Trafford, former United midfielder Nicky Butt told Paddy Power last month:

“Unless someone tells me before the game that something is really wrong, I won’t change my mind. I think that happens in any changing room.
“That certainly happened in the workplace I was at. I think there’s a lot of ego in the locker room, a lot of testosterone in the air. Something is said and it starts.”
“That’s not the ideal thing you want for a team, but you don’t think, ‘I’m not going to go near him, I’m not going to touch him,’ unless it turns out he did something really crazy.
“He’s still my main target in midfield. He’s powerful, aggressive and I think he’s everything Man United need in a midfielder.”
As for other midfield options, United have pulled out of the race for 23-year-old Elliott Anderson after Manchester City made a bid in excess of £120m for the player. United’s leaders are reluctant to make such an assessment of the England international.
The Red Devils are also keen on signing Matheus Fernandes, but he is likely to leave West Ham United this summer after falling to the Sky Bet Championship. Meanwhile, Ederson admitted at the weekend that he is “almost all set” for a move to United.
United signed the midfielder from Atalanta earlier this month, and the midfielder appears to be Michael Carrick’s first signing since taking charge at Old Trafford.
The Reds will pay the 26-year-old an initial fee of 40.5 million euros (about £35 million), plus an additional 4.5 million euros (about 380 million yen).
